Nathan Hochman, Leading Candidate for District Attorney of Los Angeles County, Blocked From Participating in D.A. Candidate Forum Tonight

Nathan Hochman, the leading challenger to Dist. Atty. George Gascon, has been prohibited from participating in tonight’s D.A. candidate forum sponsored by the Santa Monica Democratic Club because he is a registered Independent (No Party Preference) and not a registered Democrat.

Hochman believes that a D.A. should be fiercely independent and not beholden to any Party or political ideology, unlike Gascon whose political ideology taints every decision he makes, including a series of pro-criminal policies that have endangered the public and contributed to an increase in crime. Furthermore, the District Attorney of Los Angeles County is a non-partisan position in which party affiliation will not be listed on the ballot.

“I’m very disappointed that the Santa Monica Democratic Club won’t allow me to share my vision and my views at tonight’s D.A. candidate forum based solely on the fact that I’m a registered Independent (No Party Preference). I firmly believe that the D.A. should make decisions based on the evidence and the law – not on party affiliation or political ideology,” Hochman said.

“Criminals don’t ask people for their party registration before they rob them, and the Santa Monica Democratic Club shouldn’t ask for a specific Party card before allowing candidates to share their views about a non-partisan race. It is ironic that a club that supposedly supports Democracy, where everyone’s views should be heard, has chosen to silence the leading DA candidate at its forum.”
