11 Nov District Attorney-Elect Nathan Hochman Announces He Will Appoint Veteran Prosecutor Steve Katz as Chief Deputy
LOS ANGELES / November 11, 2024 – Los Angeles County District Attorney-elect Nathan Hochman announced today that he will appoint veteran Deputy District Attorney Steve Katz, a highly regarded, experienced prosecutor and leader in the District Attorney’s Office, as Chief Deputy in his new administration.
Mr. Katz joined the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office in 1990 and has served as a Deputy District Attorney for over 34 years. Following numerous assignments throughout the county as a trial prosecutor and a calendar deputy, 83 jury trials, and 9 years in office management, he was promoted to Head Deputy in 2013. Mr. Katz has led the Office’s Parole Division, Writs and Appeals Division, Airport Branch and Public Integrity Division. Each year since 2010, Mr. Katz has co-authored and co-edited three chapters in the Continuing Education of the Bar (CEB) annual treatise, Criminal Sentencing Enhancements. He has also served as a chair and member of the Executive Committee of the Criminal Law Section of the California State Bar. Over the course of his career, Mr. Katz has lectured and written extensively on various areas of criminal law, including DUI offenses and vehicular homicide cases. Mr. Katz graduated from the UCLA School of Law in 1989.
As Chief Deputy, Mr. Katz will be Mr. Hochman’s No. 2 in command, overseeing all aspects of the District Attorney’s Office.
