LOS ANGELES / October 3, 2024 – Nathan Hochman, the former federal prosecutor running to defeat George Gascon in the Nov. 5 election for Los Angeles County District Attorney, issued a statement on today’s explosive Los Angeles Times story about George Gascon’s mishandling of double murderer Shanice Dyer’s case. As The Times reported, Gascon refused to prosecute Dyer for two murders in criminal court, where she faced life in prison without parole, enabling her to be released after just a few years in juvenile custody – and kill again.

“The Dyer case is yet another sad example of how Gascon has failed to do his job and protect the public from violent criminals. His own prosecutors warned him that Ms. Dyer would kill again if he failed to transfer her case to criminal court. Instead of listening to them, he followed his extreme ideology and kept her case in juvenile court, with predictable results. Fortunately, Angelenos have an opportunity on Nov. 5 to end the madness and elect a District Attorney who will stand up for public safety.”

Recent polling confirms that Los Angeles County voters are fed up with Gascon’s pro-criminal policies, with Hochman holding a 24-point lead over Gascon. Ballots will be arriving in the mail within a few days.
