28 Sep Five Former U.S. Attorneys for the Central District of California Endorse Nathan Hochman for L.A. County District Attorney
Endorsements Combined With Record-Setting Fundraising Make Hochman Favorite in Race to Become L.A. County’s Next DA
LOS ANGELES — The campaign of Nathan Hochman, former U.S. Assistant Attorney General, federal prosecutor, and L.A. Ethics Commission President, today announced the endorsements of five former United States Attorneys for the Central District of California. These United States Attorneys held the highest position at one of the nation’s largest U.S. Attorney’s Offices, the Central District of California, enforcing federal laws in seven counties, including Los Angeles County. They served collectively under five different Democratic and Republican U.S. Presidents. Each of these former United States Attorneys has worked with Hochman for decades in government and private practice and fully endorses him to become L.A. County’s next District Attorney. This overwhelming support from these top prosecutors and record-setting fundraising establishes Hochman as the frontrunner in the race to replace the hugely unpopular current District Attorney.
“I’m honored to have the endorsements of five of the finest United States Attorneys to serve the millions of residents of L.A. County and the Central District of California,” Hochman said. “Collectively, these five former United States Attorneys served under five Democratic and Republican Presidents over the last four decades. To receive their support to become L.A. County’s next District Attorney to repair a broken office and restore safety and security to our community is humbling and inspiring.”
Nicola Hanna, United States Attorney (2018-2021): “L.A. County’s District Attorney Office is crying out for leadership, common sense, and a commitment to public safety. Based on the over 25 years I’ve known Nathan Hochman, I can say without reservation that he has the experience, judgment and integrity to enforce the law fairly and with accountability. He’s the leader we need as our next District Attorney.”
Sandra Brown, Acting United States Attorney (2017-2018): “For the past 30 years, I have worked with Nathan Hochman in his roles as a federal prosecutor, a U.S. Assistant Attorney General in charge of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Tax Division, and a defense attorney. I can say unequivocally that Nathan is someone who has led by example with intelligence, integrity, and a dedication to justice. Nathan has the right experience and is the right choice. Los Angeles County needs Nathan Hochman as its next District Attorney to fix a broken office.”
Debra Wong Yang, United States Attorney (2002-2006): “I have known Nathan for over 30 years since we were federal prosecutors together, and I have been consistently impressed over the years by his dedication to the public good, intelligence, leadership, ethics, and ability to get things done. Given the alarming condition of the city that I love, and the lack of leadership at the L.A. County DA’s office, Nathan is the right person at the right time to help us revitalize Los Angeles in new and thoughtful ways and return the L.A. DA’s office to its former prominence.”
Terree Bowers, United States Attorney (1992-1994): “I have known Nathan Hochman for over three decades. During that time, he has skillfully and effectively prosecuted violent criminals, narcotics traffickers and public corruption cases as an Assistant U.S. Attorney; successfully led the U.S. Department of Justice’s Tax Division as the Assistant Attorney General; and strongly defended the constitutional rights of individuals as a defense attorney. Nathan has demonstrated the highest levels of integrity, work ethic, honesty, and leadership in every role he has had. With L.A. County suffering from a District Attorney who has failed to do his job, Nathan would be the perfect choice to bring back accountability, restore our safety and security, and institute independence and integrity back into the DA’s Office. That is why I fully endorse Nathan to be the next L.A. County District Attorney.”
Robert Bonner, United States Attorney (1984-1989), DEA Administrator (1990-1993), United States Customs Service Commissioner (2001-2003): “Unfortunately, the current L.A. County District Attorney has prioritized the interests of criminals over those of victims and has shifted the criminal justice system away from holding criminals accountable for their crimes to one that allows criminals to act with relative impunity. We need to elect a District Attorney who will stand up for victims and law-abiding citizens, who is genuinely concerned with public safety, and who will promote smart, effective reforms based on decades of criminal justice experience. Nathan Hochman is that independent, accomplished leader, whom I have worked with for over 3 decades since I hired him as an Assistant U.S. Attorney. He will make an exceptional District Attorney.”
